Report to Governor & General Assembly due Nov. 1996.

The Family Violence Council was organized by the Lt. Governor and the Attorney General in 1995. The Council seeks ways to reduce and prevent family violence. It is evaluating Maryland's criminal and civil laws concerned with family violence. Using the model code developed by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges as a guide, the Council will recommend reforms to strengthen the laws, their enforcement, and programs that support families and protect victims. With the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention, the Council will develop long-range plans for funds available through the Federal Violence Against Women Act of 1994.
